I was born in the southwest, lived for a while in Texas (sort of south-mid-west, I guess?) and lived the rest of my life in Florida (but not southern Florida-the panhandle, near Alabama)--why I come up with only 15% Dixie and 0% Midwestern, I don't know. What does your profile say? Does it fit you?

This New Englander is 45% Yankee and 30% General American English (or whatever it was called). Guess 10 years in DC and 9 years in AZ have taken their toll! Michele says hi.
ReplyDeleteI'm 35%, 35%, 10%, 10% and 0%
ReplyDeleteAn interesting one...Back from Michele this A.M. This was a fun one to do, Tracie.
I'm from England, as you know, and I got 55% General American English, 20% DIXIE (??) and 20% YANKEE!!! What even is Yankee??? I think Dixie is southern right cos of dixie music? Oh yeh it was something to do with the French money in New Orleans and Americans couldn't be arsed to say it (dix) with a French accent (I honestly have nothing against the way people from America and England, including myself, think our language is all that's needed and totally disregard other languages and assume people will just learn English wherever they're from to save us the trouble of learning another language!) I learnt something in Music! So I'm 20% Yankee and don't know what it means, and I'm only 95% of a person it seems! Looking at everyone else's scores, no one else got 100% either...weird!
ReplyDeleteThe real question is how you scored 20% Yankee. Doesn't Yankee mean anything anymore!!! I'm taking this test. I've spent my whole life in northern New Jersey and New York City. I may have to confront my inner Dixie!
ReplyDeleteAlright, 45% Yankee and 35% general Amercan English. But 15% Dixie? Well, I have an uncle who lives in Cape May. And I have been to the Outer Banks on vacation.
ReplyDeleteY'all have a great weekend~,:^)
I'm 75% General...15% Dixie...5% Midwestern.
ReplyDeleteOdd becuase I've lived in hillbilly-land Oklahoma all my life. I'm quite happy I don't fit the norm here! :)
Thanks for stopping by my site earlier, Tracie! :)
