Thursday Thirteen #2!!

Thirteen Random Things about Tracie
(and things that I sometimes think about!)

1. My husband still says to me, "What exactly is a blog? I don't even understand that word-I mean who came up with that?" I have patiently tried to discuss the idea of "weblog" with him, but to no avail. He says the word makes him think of what happens when a spider bites you....I told him that it worked out well for Spiderman.

2. Today I told him I was going to do a Thursday Thirteen and he said that I should come up with thirteen equally random and ridiculous words to replace the word blog and see if one of them catched on, and then he gave me some silly examples....

3. So, who wants to start calling their blog a "Peko-Peko"? (He says this is the name of a bird in his Star Wars Galaxies world...what that has to do with a blog I don't know!)

4. How about this one....."Piddle-Paddle"......come on....... anyone?? I know that you are just dying to tell all of your friends "I have a Piddle-Paddle site, you should check it out sometime." .........Well, at least it would keep you from having to endlessly explain what exactly a blog is!

5. Talking about blogs, this was one funny post I read recently...I was "laughing my butt off!"

6. Adventure in potty training #679,001-last night my daughter told me that she couldn't poo poo in the potty because the poo poo was sleeping.......where does she get this stuff??

7. Did you know that Skittles makes gum now? It is strangely addicting-and it accually tastes just like skittles.

8. Sometimes I do online surveys, and I have been asked over and over if I order groceries off of the internet---do people accually do that on a regular basis?

9. I know someone who lives in an 8 foot tall, fluffy, invisible tree.....You don't believe me? Well, he told me he did. What? Have I seen it? Of course I haven't seen it--it's invisible.

10. Did you know that Nestle just bought Jenny Craig? Now when you look on the Nestle web site it says a bunch of stuff about how they are dedicated to nutrition....I for one always thought they were dedicated to chocolate, but that may just be me.

11. Did you know that if you Google search "Tracie" my blog comes up on the first page??

12. I have only met three other Tracie's in my life that spell their names the way I do.

13. While I was sitting here typing this up I heard a popping noise and saw this screw fly off of the side of my chair and then the arm fell off.........I think it is time for me to buy a new chair!

  1. Back in Texas, I ordered my groceries online and had them delivered...I loved it! It was so easy and it didn't cost much more.

I have people ask me all the time what is a blog....I just say it's an online journal. It seems to gets the point across, till they see it. My 80 yr old grandfather visits my blog, he understands what it is now! That's cool!

Great list! Happy Thursday! My TT is up!!

  2. 1. I hate the term blog. I hate referring to my blog as a blog. It just sounds stupid. Like it's just one step removed from a blob.

    2. Nestle doesn't care about health or nutrition. Neither does Coke, Mars, Pepsi, etc. They just want money. The only way that'll change is when consumers start demanding better foods and stop buying what they're putting out there now.

But as long as people are swayed by funny commercials, that aint going to happen.

    (back under my soapbox now...)

  3. Love these, Tracie... I particularly loved the "invisible tree"...LOL! I have never ordered my groceries on line but I would if one of really good markets began delivering likt the Gelson's chain...with my Health situation it would be wonderful for me...

About Stanley Glickman: No, Robin and Stanley did not marry. I am not sure why...Yes, we all did stay in touch with Stanley and his sister Sylvia. Stanley lives in Arizona...(Of you pass your curer over his name there is a link that takes you to a website where it tells you quite a bit about him...Lovely Lovely man. Thanks for asking Tracie.

  6. You have a child with a vivid imagination too, I SEE! My 3yr old has invisible pets. First it was a blue butterfly she carried around, then it was a baby mouse, and now it's a dog named "Burrito".
Brings a smile to my face to think how full of life she is.
Thanks for stopping by my TT! Have a great Thursday

  7. Sometimes it is hard to explain what a blog is! I keep trying to explain to my grandfather, but he's just being contrary! :)

    My list is up here.

  8. My boyfriend is totally thrilled that when you google "freedom birds" His blog is number 1. I have never googled Mysterious lady.
Nestle buying Jenny Craig is just wrong. It's just twisted.

    Mines up!

  9. As I don't have a car and I am some what disabled so I'm in the process of trying to find a local supermarket that delivers. Much prefer to go shop but on-line would be so much easier.

  11. Yum! Skittles gum. I wonder if you can get that here. I think peeped with babies or busy jobs or something do internet grocery shopping. I've done it once when I was busy or sick or something.

  12. Tracie, hi! I am here from Michelle's. I like your Thursday Thirteen, and learned a couple of new things, too. :)

  14. lol at your chair! Oh and no I never order groceries online, I don't even think we can where I live.. would be nice though and not to mention lazy! hehe

I used to ponder over the word 'blog' too.. who the hell came up with that stupid name anyway?

Great TT, I enjoyed reading it :=)

    ReplyDelete
  15. HAHA Great 13!! cracking up at your husbands ideas for new names instead of "blog" i dont even try to explain what a blog is to my husband..lol

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  16. That is such a funny t13. As a matter of fact your whole peko-peko is good...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Stop by my Piddle Paddle later. :) Yes, the whole Nestle/Jenny Craig thing is weird. Maybe it'll mean we'll get some good, low-cal chocolate!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I relate to 1 & 2, same with my hubby. And the one about your daughter is hilarious!

    ReplyDelete
  19. "Blog" is a weird word, huh?

Skittles gum is great! Nestle took over Jenny Craig? Wow!!! Maybe now I can validate my reasoning about my chocolate addiction...it HAS to be healthy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I try to remember to say "web log" for those who are out of the loop. I've had the same problem...people disliking the word and getting stuck there.

Years ago Nestles was boycotted by many because they were giving out free formula to women in 3rd world countries and then their milk would dry up and they couldn't afford to buy more formula so their babies were dying! I haven't forgiven them yet.

My 13 are swimming laps. Tired from playing scrabble.

  21. I don't order my groceries regularly off the internet - but I know someone who does :)

I'm here to share my TT with you,

  22. Heehee, I never really liked the term "blog". I don't know why but it always reminded me of the word "booger"...

Interesting about the Nestle and Jenny Craig deal. Wonder if Jenny Craig will be incorporating more chocolate into her program now???

    My T13 is up :)

  23. ha ha ha, piddle-paddle. Hope you get a nice new chair ;).

  24. I remember when my son was potty training. To get him to poop in the potty, we had to tell him that his poop really wanted to go swimming in the big potty pool! From then on he helps his poop get out of him bum so they can go swimming, and then go down the water slide!

    Good luck!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Great list Tracie! Loved reading it, and I love "piddle paddle" :)

Explaining blog is fairly easy, I've had more trouble trying to explain a "meme" to people who don't blog.

    Have a great day!

  26. Weird that nestle bought Jenny Craig. Makes you wonder now about how effective Jenny Craig is gonna be. They'll add a nestle chocolate to their menu.

  27. My husband asked me why the word blog, and I said because that it what it is called. Why call it a book or a clock or an apple? Because that is what it is. You should tell him that apple is a dumb word and they are now to be referred to as KerKads.

I think I will have some KerKad sauce now.

    I love the Kid Zoo.

Congrats on the Google ranking. My blog is Expressions of Love but when you Google that it doesn't come up until the 3rd or 4th page.

    My TT is up.

    ReplyDelete
  28. well, i have to agree that 'blog' really sounds kind of strange. but i'd rather have it than piddle-paddle. :)

    tnx for dropping by!

    ReplyDelete
  29. ohh, Skittle gum - gonna have to check that out. Sorry about your chair!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I admit it, I order my groceries online. I'm all about doing things the easy way. :)

Thanks for the comment on my TT!

    ReplyDelete
  31. My husband doesn't get the blogging thing either.

And thanks for the tip on Skittles gum. I love skittles and I love gum so sounds like a good combo!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I shop online all the time for groceries. I use pic 'n' del. They are super easy to use.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Tracie, you never left your e-mail for me to answer your question.

    ReplyDelete
  34. My Best Friend used to live in Boston and she regualrly ordered groceries online and had them delivered. Its too expensive to own a car and park it in Boston, so its hard to transport more groceries than you can carry unless you cab it...which can be a pain. The other thing is that in the winter, people just don't like to walk to the grocery store...especially when its almost blizzard weather...so I'm guessing that a lot of people in Boston buy their groceries online and have them delivered.

Thanks for stopping by my TT!

  35. Nestle and Jennie Craig together! Isn't that a slight conflict of interest.

    Michele sent me.

  36. Hey, I am here via Michele tonight, but I love your 13!!!

Some of the names were ummm... yah, interesting is a good word ::giggle::

I tried to google my name... never did find my blog... but if you type in Crayons, I am on the first page... and if you type in crayonsetc... I am EVERY entry on the first page LOL. I have a very popular name... and they are almost ALL MEN!!! (which I am not, btw ;))

    ReplyDelete
  37. Michele sent me back this early A.M. And I've had fun reading sme of your comments!
Nestle is a strange company and I remember what Colleen was writing about, very well. I doubt very much that they are truly concerned with anyone's health, you know? Except the "health" of their company's bottom line! HA!

  38. I would order groceries online, if I could do it here. I HATE grocery shopping.

    This was a great list.

  39. re: #9 - I think your friend watched Harvey one too many times!

  40. I thought the nestle/jenny craig thing was funny. my husband always says he doesn't read my blog, but he always wants to know about my thirteens...

  41. This is not Thursday Thirteen related, but I had to tell you that your klutzy story cracked me up! Too funny! We are birds of a feather. And guess what, earlier today I pranced by that freakin' bucket and I almost hit it again!! arrgghh! I really should move it.

  42. Good list, Tracie. I like the one about Nestle's buying Jenny Craig. seems like corss-purposes to me...LOL

  44. I need to get my butt in gear and get back on the Thursday Thirteen. I really enjoyed it when I did it and then I guess I just got lazy. I will make an effort to do it this Thursday.

My hubby didn't know what a blog was either. He just asked me last night what Prada was since he has seen the movie, The Devil Wears Prada advertised. I explained to him what Prada was..that took about 15 minutes before he comprehended that. I think I will leave the blog thing alone for awhile.

  45. Love the comments from your daughter about the potty training, that's absolutely classic!!

I have ordered groceries online. I live in a rural area and with a family that has food allergies, it's hard to get certain products around here sometimes, but they're easy to find online. I'd like to be able to order everything online without ever having to venture into a crowded, noisy walk-a-mile-to-get-the-milk grocery store ever again.

From what I understand the Nestle boycott is still going on because they haven't changed their ways about how they promote formula. I bet this whole Jenny Craig thing is an attempt to restore their image. I love how companies will go to any length and expense to cover up their misdeeds rather than just start doing the right thing!

    Anyways, Great TT!
