Around My House

These two pictures don't really have anything in common, except they are things that were in my living room this evening. The palm tree is off center (obviously) and usually that would drive me crazy, but for some reason it is working for me tonight.

  1. Centred pictures are boring, so I'm glad you went with the off-centred approach.

One of the basic rules of photographic composition is to avoid the centred photo as much as possible. Instead, we're advised to view the frame as a sort of tic tac toe board. Then we're supposed to sorta place the items of interest or focal points somewhere on the four intersections within the image.

    It works, oddly enough.

  2. So, were you playing 52 Pick-up?

Michele sent me, and I'm chuckling.

  3. I agree with Carmi, most centered pictures are boring and unoriginal (not all, but most) & I like the way you did that with the Tree.

I loooooooooooove Black & White photography. It gives a classic look to almost anything.

    Here from Michele's!

  4. Ooh, these are great, love the b&W and the soft shaded look to them. And the pile of cards look fun :) I'm with kenju, were you playing 52 card pick-up?! :)

  5. Interesting pictures and creative post, I think I might do something like these things "around my house"!

  6. Is the palm tree a picture on an item? I can't seem to figure it out.

  7. There was a little unintentional game of 52-pick-up going on, but I figured it might make a good picture.

The tree is a picture that is on my pillow cases, and I was playing around with the camera and flash versus no flash and it caught my eye as something to try photographing.

  8. Hello, Michele sent me today, so I thought I'd wander around a bit. That palm tree looks so familiar. I think I have something like that somewhere in my house!
