-High School Reunion

I keep seeing these commercials for this show High School Reunion whenever I am enjoying my Green Acres reruns.  This show makes no sense to me.  When I really think about it I have no desire to visit any high school reunion (I don't actually qualify for any high school reunion since I didn't go all four years at traditional school, but work with my rant here for just a minute)....at no point in my life have I wanted to spend several hours with people I haven't seen for ten years-finding out what job they have, seeing pictures of their kids, meeting their spouses (who I won't see again anyway) sharing the superficial details of my life with people who I'm not even completely sure that I remember, who probably aren't sure they remember me--all set to annoying music that wasn't that great while we were in high school and food that I'm not going to eat~leaving me hungry until my post-reunion Taco Bell run.  Why do people subject themselves to this ritual?

Apparently TV Land decided that three hours of this every ten years just wasn't enough, so now they want to take people and lock them in a house together for several weeks.......What!?!?!?!  Who thinks this is a great idea?  Even if it does come with a free trip to Hawaii?  I am sitting here trying to think of someone who I went to high school with that I would agree to being locked in a house with for two weeks.......the only people who I can think of are ones who I am still friends with, and obviously since I am still friends with them we don't need to be reunited.   If I was that excited about having contact with any other high school acquaintances I would have obviously kept in touch with them on my own...without the help of TV Land and without being locked up with them for prolonged periods.  I spent enough time locked up with these people in classes that I didn't want to attend to go through that all over again mixing in boob jobs, unrequited love, strange challenges and catty women.  Hawaii just isn't enough of an incentive for me on this one.

Why doesn't TV Land quit wasting time on this nightmare and bring back episodes of The Wonder Years....because that is a show that you could lock me up in a room with for as long as you like-just slip me some junk food every so often and I'm all set!

  1. Here, here! I totally agree with this. Some people apparently feel the need to rehash the past to the point of trying for a different outcome this time around--and on national TV to boot. Doesn't make sense to me. Who cares? If someone snubbed or bullied me in tenth grade, why would I want to spend time with them now? And even if they've changed for the better, so what. I still don't know them. We wouldn't have anything in common except for the miserable school year of our acquaintance.

As for Wonder Years, oh man, I forgot how much I love that show. You just had to bring it up didn't you?! I wonder if they have the series on DVD. I'd really like to get that. Now that's some good TV!

  2. Ugh. That sounds like a nightmare to me. I haven't gone to any of my reunions. I can't imagine being stuck in a house with those people.

  3. I have to agree with you! That would totally suck and the trip so wouldn't be worth it.

  4. Excuse me. But may I remind you that you could see ME at your 10 year reunion??? I would totally get locked up in a house with you if we could go to Hawaii...let's pretend we never communicate and then try to get on the show together. Mmm....Hawaii....

  5. I really didn't want to do HS the first time. This doesn't sound fun.

  6. Uh yeah, my 10 year reunion was in November and I didn't go. It was 20 minutes away. I had no desire to go. And if I'm dying to know what people are up to these days all I have to do is find them on facebook!

  7. I went to DH's high school reunions. We actually had a pretty good time.

But, others may not have felt that way. His class had a 5 and a 10 and then apparently called it quits on the reunions. LOL

There is no WAY I want to spend a week in a house with old high school mates though. Geez --- sometimes it's hard enough to spend a week with FAMILY!

  8. My 25th high school reunion is coming up this summer but I doubt I'll go. It's in Sydney, Nova Scotia (about 2000 miles away) and I haven't kept up with anyone.

I wonder if NetChick will be going to her high school reunion ...

  9. I agree with everything you are saying and second that! I went to my 10 year reunion and that was it, I never went to another one.

I would not want to be locked up in a house with any of my old high school classmates. Yikes!

  11. I have been to about 7 of my high school reunions and had a great time at all of them. But I'm not sure I'd want to live with them for any period of time....LOL

  12. so true! especially the part about sharing superficial details about ourselves. Who really cares?
I have seen this show and as far as I can tell all it's really about is hooking up.
    No thanks.

  13. I just adore all my high school class reunions. At the first (the 10th) I was impressed that no one asked me what "I did." They just treated me the same as the girl I was. I went to a small school and everyone feels like extended family now.
