I Don't Back Down From A Challenge

I wanted to read through the entire Bible when I was a teenager. I found an old One Year Living Bible that my mom had from the 70s (do you remember those, the hardback ones with the green cover?) the kind where it is arranged like a devotional for reading through in a year instead of the usual Old Testament/New Testament arrangement.  That didn't work for me. I think I made it the first two days.

Later that year I decided just to do it on my own. I had one of those study Bibles with the reading chart in the back where you could mark each chapter as you read. I decided to read one book from the New Testament and then one from the Old. This wasn't a great plan because there are more books in the Old than in the New and my system was doomed from the start.

Not to worry, the downfall of my badly planned system didn't stop me from finishing.  I decided to be less worried about the order I read and just pick books out and read them. It was very fulfilling for me to open up to that reading chart in the back of my Bible, and fill in the box next to each chapter with my highlighter.

I went back and read through it a second time, and used a pen to make x's in the little chapter boxes.  That chart really worked for me.

It has been several years now since I have systematically read through the entire Bible. I've been thinking about doing it again, but haven't been able to find my reading groove. Last week I saw on Julie's blog that she was going to join in with a group of bloggers and take the 90 Day Challenge. I knew immediately that this was just the kick in the backside that I needed to get started.

I'm so excited to really dig into the Bible again. Even though I have read through the entire thing more than once, this will be my first time doing it in order (and in 90 Days! Eeek!)

If you would like to join in, today is the first day so you still have time to visit Mom's Toolbox and sign up. You aren't even late! We started with Genesis1:1-Genesis16:16 today.

To all the bloggers who are participating in this challenge, and are here for the first time...it is nice to meet you! My name is Tracie and you can find out more about me here. I look forward to getting to know you over the next 90 days and taking this journey with you. I know that we are all going to learn some amazing things and I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for us!

  6. Oh wow! That is a huge challenge! The funny thing is that I've been thinking about doing something like this. Maybe I could be successful if had a group of people doing it with me.

Hmmm....maybe I'll swing over to Mom's Toolbox and check it out...

  8. Confession: Been a Christian since I was 11 and have not yet read the Bible through. I always get slowed down in the begats.
