It Is the Thought That Counts

I see her giggles.

She is leaning over and whispering to her daddy.

He laughs.

They look over at me and the laughter grows.

"What are you two saying? What is so funny?"

"Oh mom, we can't tell you that just yet. Wait until tomorrow. You will see."

It is a surprise. Her very favorite thing.

Not often very big....but special in all it's smallness.

Love drips off of it.

She can hardly contain all the joy that flows through her, and it comes out in jumps and hops and big, tight hugs.

A smile so big.

Her heart shows through.

And in that moment I understand the truth behind that old saying, it is the thought that counts.

"Do you love it? Do you really really love it?"

"Yes my dear. I love it. And I really really love you."

  1. Super sweet :) So full of love, she is..

  2. So cute! :) I love this post.

  3. This is so beautiful and sweet... Thank you for sharing it with us.

  4. The surprise?
it's cause it is SOMEBODY'S birthday tomorrow?
    Like yooooou?
    Hope your day is WONDERFUL!

  5. So sweet! I can feel the love when I read. Lovely!

  6. So sweet! There's just nothing like a gift from your child! And, yes, watching their excitement about giving it is the best part.

  7. Oh I can't wait for this. I know my daughter's first words in the mornings are the sweetest things I hear all day.
    Oh happy sighs.
    Thank you for sharing this.

  8. Dropping in from SITS. Very sweet poem... I have a little ones that reminds me of!

  9. That is so sweet! It makes my heart melt. :)

  10. A birthday surprise for you? So sweet!

I hope you had a wonderful day!

  11. And the best part is, with some kids (mine included), they don't lose that joy of giving. My boys get so giggly and funny when it's gift giving time for me. They really do search hard for a gift to truly make me smile.

Their love and generosity is worth so much more than whatever it is they're giving.

  12. I hope you had a wonderful birthday. Full of moments like these.

  13. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! Looking forward to following along with yours! Your writing is absolutely beautiful!

  14. "Love drips off of it"

  17. I think it's the love that counts and the love is obviously there.

  18. Thank you for sharing such a special moment. It warmed my heart.

  19. She sounds like such a sweetie pie!

These are the times that I cherish with my own daughters. I will miss their innocent sweetness so much when they are grown.

  20. That part of being a mom?

Seeing your child's absolute joy at having a secret happiness she can't wait to share with you?

    Oh, that's just the best.

    The very best.

    What a lovely post.
