A Romantic Valentine Evening

At Tracie's House last night....

Tracie - I want to watch a movie.

Thomas - How about Fawlty Towers?

Tracie - I'm not in the mood for that right now.
(Which is unusual, because I love that show)

Thomas - What are you in the mood for?

Tracie - I don't know. Give me some choices.

Thomas - How about a romantic comedy?

Tracie - Maybe. What romantic comedy?

Thomas - Um. Jaws?

Tracie - Jaws? The great love story of the shark and the fisherman. That is just so romantic...and funny.

.....Just so you know, I'm not going to watch Nemo either.

A few minutes later.

Tracie - The Little Mermaid!?

Thomas - What about it?

Tracie - The Little Mermaid. It is romantic. And it is comedic. And there is fish. And a giant shark that tries to kill Arial. It is the romantic comedy version of Jaws. We should watch that.

Thomas - No.

What is your favorite movie? Is it a romantic comedy? Is it Jaws?

  1. LOL, did he really want to watch Jaws? That is hysterical...but a typical response from a man! My husband's idea of a romantic movie would probably be watching Bourne Identity (last time I checked, it is in the action movie section)! My choice would be more along the lines of Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin or anything Disney!

  2. I have 4 all time favorites (in no particular order) and they all have some romance and some comedy:

Return to Me - 2000, A man who falls in love with the woman who received his wife's heart must decide which woman it is who holds his heart.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding - 2002, A young Greek woman falls in love with a non-Greek and struggles to get her family to accept him while she comes to terms with her heritage.

Fiddler on the Roof - 1971, In pre-revolutionary Russia, a poor Jewish peasant must contend with marrying off his three daughters while antisemitic sentiment threatens ...

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - 1954, In 1850 Oregon, when a backwoodsman brings a wife home to his farm, his six brothers decide that they want to get married too.

And not in the same class but an absolute HOOT! ---

Mamma Mia - 2008, The story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular '70s group ABBA.
(But let me warn you - Pierce Brosnan can NOT sing!)

  3. Favorite? Can't choose 1. When Harry Met Sally, Shawshank Redemption, Dogma, Grease, and The Sound Of Music are my top 5. And no, I'm not schizophrenic despite my varied taste in movies. :)

  4. this cracked me up!! it's nice to know that those type of conversations aren't just at my house :)

my favorite of all time in terms of romance is pride and prejudice, can't beat it..that and of course i love little women :)

hope you had a wonderful valentine's day!!

  5. My two favorites are Gone with the Wind and A&E's Pride and Prejudice. Which is funny because I'm not really a romance fan.

I like Galaxy Quest (because I'm a Trekkie). I like movies that make me think. I only like comedies that are intelligent. Stupid comedy doesn't work for me.

I also love Alice in Wonderland. I own six different versions. My favorite is the SyFy channels version.

    And I love Little Mermaid.

  6. Gone with the Wind
    A&E's Pride and Prejudice
    Little Women (Wynona Ryder)
    Galaxy Quest
    What About Bob?

I also love Alice in Wonderland. I own six different versions. My favorite is the one the SyFy channel did last year.

And I love Little Mermaid. I love the way you reasoned that was the romantic version of Jaws.

  7. My hubs & I watched Life As We Know It (the one where josh Dummel & Katherine Heighl have to raise their goddaughter after the bFFs die) it was pretty good. Romantic comedies are my favorite!

  8. No way I would watch Jaws again. It scared me the first time and I'm sure it would again! LOL!

I love to watch Agatha Christie mysteries. My favorite character is the Belgian detective, Poirot.
I just love the scenery and of course a good who dunnit!

  9. lol...jaws?
    I love The Notebook.
Did you actually settle in and watch Nemo?
    rofl...Classic Tracie pure classic.

  10. My favorite movies are Coal Miner's Daughter, Grease, and Urban Cowboy. Yes, I am stuck in another decade. Why do you ask?

  11. Heaven Can Wait! Oldie but goodie.
    Jaws (j.k.)
Not comedy but truly romantic: The Notebook, Pride & Prejudice (I'm sensing a theme in the comments)
    I LMAO The Proposal.
I always crack up to 50 First Dates and Fever Pitch.

  12. Lol, that's brilliant! :)

As for my favourite movie - it depends what mood I'm in... but I love Shrek ! :)

  13. Pay it Forward, somethings gotta give, Anything by Tyler Perry..Steel Magnolias and Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood

  14. I'm gonna go with a himym reference and vote for predator

  15. I ADORE Forrest Gump.

My own movie to watch over and over.

  16. I love Mamma Mia
I also love Top Gun and a Few Good Men.

Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman as well.

Sometimes I'll watch a stupid slapstick comedy with my husband. Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Step-Brothers are two of his favorites that I can tolerate

  17. I love romantic comedies but can't think of one right now. Sleepless in Seattle?

  18. OK, so Jaws, Nemo and Little Mermaid? You guys were on some sort of "water" kick with your movie considerations! And as romantic comedies??

What did you end up watching?

  19. Jaws? What a romantic indeed...
I don't know that I have a favorite movie, I've watched Cluless about twenty times but that makes me seem ridiculous...

  20. I am giggling at the idea of Jaws being a romantic comedy.

If I could watch only one movie for the rest of my days, it would be Hope Floats. Not academy award caliber by any means, but Harrick Connick Jr? Delish.

  21. Haha!!! that's awesome :) My favorite movie is either all 3 Lord of the Rings (the nerd in me coming out) The Guardian is a favorite too :) that would be my favorite romantic comedy!

  22. Tracie, thanks for stopping by The LG Report. Just checked in on your blog and find it very entertaining. Loved the movie selection dialogue, sounds very familiar to me. I just because your Follower #301. 301 is an area code in Maryland. I know all the area codes (used to anyway, before all the new ones for cell phones, etc...) Great blog, keep on writing!

  23. I followed you over from maggiedammit, and just wanted to say that your comment about the crumpled pieces was so sweet and poignant and evocative that I just had to come tell you so.

We're very lucky to have our crumple-smoothers, aren't we?
