Hunger Games and Farting Elephants

On Sunday night I went to my friend Lee's house for an Oscars Party (look at her correctly predicting all the winners), and I came home with a farting elephant (seriously, he farts - I find this to be much funnier than it probably is).

This is Norman. He is an elephant who has a little issue with gas.
Norman the Phartephant

Norman was promptly welcomed to the family by Ally.
Norman Meets My Stuffed Elephant Ally

See how nice and friendly Ally was being toward Norman?
And then, Ally heard something, and afraid he was about to smell something...
Stuffed Elephant Smells Something

Ally held his trunk.
(Elephants do smell through their trunks, right?)
And then Ally ran away, leaving Norman (and his farts) alone.

Sad Norman.

I haven't been around the blog this week. Because I've been busy planning elephant photo shoots. Because I also came home with Lee's copies of the Hunger Games books, and I had to read and read and read - until I finished all three of them.

I know I'm about the last person on earth to read them, but if you are out there, and you haven't read them yet either, go run to the bookstore now and pick them up. Trust me. They are so good, you will thank me.

Although I haven't decided how I feel about the third book. But I'm not going to ruin it in case you have not read it yet. But if you have read them, I want to know if you liked the third book. And if you are planning on seeing the movies. And everything else you thought (can we have a book club meeting here and talk about these books? because they are the kind of books that cry out for discussion).

Now that I've finished the trilogy, I'm ready to:

  • Put away the tissues (yes, tissues were necessary).
  • Do the dishes (everyone on facebook told me I didn't have to do dishes while there were Hunger Games books to be read, and I agree).
  • Stop watching the movie trailer over and over, trying to figure out how badly they will ruin the story (I am holding out hope that it will be a good adaptation).
  • Rejoin the world.

What have you been doing while I was busy reading?

  1. I don't think they can ruin the movie. Gary Ross seems so focused on making the movie perfect! And Collins is right there behind him. Ah, SO EXCITED!! :)

  2. I have no idea what I've been doing, other than than the usual daily grind. Clearly, my priorities are out of whack! If someone had told me I could skip dishes, life might have had more meaning:p
    <3 you

    1. Yes! You can skip dishes.

      It is a good thing.

  3. I did not like the end of the Trilogy. The 3rd book itself was pretty hard core and almost scary. The ending though sucked and kinda made the entire series "all for nothing" if that makes sense. I'm glad you are enjoying them so much.

    1. Yes, I know exactly what you mean.

Thanks again for loaning me your copies!

  4. OK I have not read them, have no clue what they are about. The elephants cracked me up. My mom collected elephants too. We had found her one for Christmas that she never got so it sits on my shelf in my living room now. Dangit and now I have gotten myself all teary eyed again..

  5. I don't want to see the movie, because I loved the books so much. I don't agree with 90% of the casting, so I know if I go see it I'll be a crankypants.

    1. I'm concerned about some of the casting too.

It is so easy for them to ruin books by making them into movies.

  6. I have not read any of them, and I am so far off in la-la land that I really only noticed they were a 'thing' very recently. I will definitely be picking them up sometime in the near future. Hope you're doing well. Kelly @ SFTC

  8. First of all, I find the elephant narrative hilarious! Secondly, I haven't read those books yet so I'm way behind the curve.

    1. I'm happy you enjoyed that.

You have to go pick them up and start reading right away.

  9. I haven't read the books. I do, however, love the elephants!

  10. I really enjoyed the books (I like the first one best and the 3rd one the least) but I don't know if I can see the movies. The Twilight movies ruined the books-to-movies thing for me, when it comes to young adult focused books.

    1. I haven't read or watched Twilight, so I can't comment on that. But I know I'm really nervous they will kill the Hunger Games story.

I agree that the first one was the best.

  11. Aside from panicking over the lack of comments on my blog since I decided to stop tracking such things? (Have mercy! I am NUTS!) Thank you for rescuing me! What was it that you asked again?

I haven't read the books. I know. I know. I must! Even my son, the non-reader, read all 3 while he was in Nepal! I was shocked! In a good way!

The elephants are adorable! I wonder if Mallory's elephants are around here somewhere. They might appreciate a photo shoot. Or a pot of beans!

    1. LOL! I have the same issue with comments.

I want to see a photo shoot with Mallory's elephants!

  12. first, about the abuse thing – I've written about it on my blog – I don't think I'll be participating in any carnivals about it – the one who did it is still here – I'm still trying to love him as best I can – and I don't think I want to spread the story of his guilt any further. Second – those elephants! THOSE ELEPHANTS! Brilliant, really brilliant. And about the hunger games – I don't have time to read – I barely have time to read the blogs that I heart – I'll just stick to once upon a time. God bless you Tracie!!

    1. I so very much understand why you wouldn't be further promoting or sharing those posts at this time.

It is hard to find time to read. So hard.

If only the elephants would help cook and clean, I would have more time.

  13. We just got the first book. But Himself gets to read it first.

    He's a slow reader.

    I may hurt him.

    Stay tuned.

  16. I read all 3 books. I loved 1 and 3...2 was my least favorite. I thought 3 kept in line with the story and I love Katniss.....
I am going to see the movie!! Although - in my opinion, I never like the movie after I read the book...except for Twilight (but that is a whole different post)

    1. I love Katniss too. She is a great character.

I never like the movie either, no matter who much I want to like it. If they would just stick to the book it would be okay.

  17. Those elephant photos are too funny! And don't worry... you're not the last to read the Hunger Games - I haven't read it yet either. I so need to get back to reading more!
