From Tracie: That Is Not How Goodreads Works

That Is Not How Goodreads Works

After I shared my reading list last month, I started to really use Goodreads. It is my new favorite thing.

Katarina also loves it. Her new goal is to get Thomas (who likes the thought of reading much more than he enjoys the actual process) to use the account he accidentally set up through facebook a few months ago.

Katarina: Dad, if you read this book, you can put it on your Goodreads.

Thomas: I have three books on my Goodreads. I have read half...of the first chapter...of each of them.

Katarina: May I be your Goodreads friend?

Thomas: Yes, honey.

Thomas: Tracie, I want you to go on my facebook, and take care of my goodreads for me, please. Record that I read the ingredients in a bottle of syrup.

Tracie: That isn't quite how it works.

I am not sure how successful Katarina is going to be with this goal.

    1. It seems much more confusing than it actually is. You will get the hang of it!

    1. I read my cereal box, too. :) Breakfast is a good time for reading.

  3. I spent 2 days trying to get my reading list from my website downloaded into Goodreads and finally just gave up after 8 or 10 different tries. It just wouldn't take my file so I got over it before I got to really try it out.

    1. I do not even begin to know how to make that work. I've been adding books manually as I read them, and rating ones I've read in the past as I see them go by.

  4. I love that somebody agrees with me that reading the ingredients on mah food counts for something! Like, Thomas wins at life.

  5. I love your family, they are so truly awesome:)
And I am obsessed with Goodreads too. I am always so excited to finish a book so I can update my status.

    1. I'm pretty sure that is your awesomeness recognizing our awesomeness.

It is so very fun to update the book status. It appeals to my book-side and my organization-side.

  7. I'm not too faithful with Goodreads either. Life is just too busy! Love you!

    1. It helps to have a Katarina in your house. She reminds you to update your books if you forget ;-)

(but you can't have MY Katarina, you have to find your own)

      Love you too!

  9. I'm visiting from SITS! I've been hearing so much abut GoodReads lately...I need to check it out!

  10. I forget I have an account. I read so much, when I can, and then forget to review the books I have. Actually I forget I have the account and then get too lazy to review the books or mark them off. Yeah, that.

I should probably get back on that. lol

    1. I'm lucky that Katarina is so excited about using it, because every time I finish a book, she reminds me to add it.

You have to get back to using yours so we can be friends over there and I can find more good books to read (as if I actually NEED more books added to my reading list).

  11. I LOVE GoodReads! It's fun to see the list of what I've read, AND it's a great way for me to make a note-to-self about books that I might enjoy (writing the title on a crumpled post-it note that always gets lost was not very effective ;-)

    1. Right? I tried that post-it note system for a long time, and it never worked very well for me either. I'm so organized in my reading list now. It is a beautiful thing.

  12. I've never used GoodReads before. I really want to get back into the habit of reading for leisure though so I may need to check it out! Stopping in from SITS!

    1. Right? That is annoying.

My husband loves the idea of reading (and he even buys books for himself to read), but the actual process of reading, not so much.

  16. I find this interaction to be very funny. Can I list it on my GoodReads?

    1. You win the comments.

Not that there is a prize.

But if there was a prize? It would have words on it, and maybe you could list that on your GoodReads ;-)

  17. My husband reads the flyers - wonder how he can add that to Goodreads! LOL

I am an avid reader and LOVE it. I am even part of some reading groups!

    What is your Goodreads name?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Goodreads really does need a section for "Alternate Reading Choices" ;-)

I haven't joined any of the reading groups on the site, yet. I'll have to look into those.

  19. If you think having a personal GOODREADS account is difficult, try having an author profile. OMG I'm always learning new things sand making goofs! I enjoyed the post. Followed you from sharefest SITS. Have a great weekend.

  21. My husband reads 20 pages in 3 months. If the book were only 20 pages he'd actually be doing well. Too bad they're using 400 page reads. On the real subject...Goodreads is wonderful! #sitssharefest
