Blog Against Child Abuse - March 2013 Edition

The Blog Carnival Against Child Abuse is a monthly event. Its purpose is to raise awareness about the serious issue of child abuse. All forms of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, spiritual, verbal) are discussed.

Welcome to the Blog Against Child Abuse - March 2013 Edition!

Blog Carnival Against Child Abuse

Advocacy & Awareness:
-Patricia Singleton from Spiritual Journey Of A Lightworker submitted Fear And Change
She wrote: Change used to be terrifying to me. Now I go with the flow. Change is the only constant in life. Why resist it?

-Elizabeth Aine Achimah from Strength of the Absurd: Journey to Shalom submitted I Am A Survivor
"Healing CAN happen. One can move from victim – survivor – into thriving. It is possible. It’s hard work. And it takes a long time. I know I have a long way still to go. But it is possible."

-Susan Komisar Hausman from Kisses From Dolce: No Secrets No Shame submitted Stamford JCC Paves Prevention Path!
She wrote: This youth-serving organization has stepped up in a big way to take a leadership role in preventing and responding appropriately to child sexual abuse.

-David Pittman from Together We Heal submitted How To Talk With Your Children About Sexual Abuse
I love his idea to inform adults that have contact with your children that you have talked to them. "Sex offenders generally target children where the risk of getting caught is sufficiently low. By doing this, you are telling any would be offender that your child is prepared and as parents you are involved."

-Patricia Singleton from Spiritual Journey Of A Lightworker submitted My Story Of Incest Guest Post on Survivor Advocacy
She wrote: I write from the heart and with as much honesty as I can with the difficult topic of incest. Sharing my own story is still hard sometimes. Each time I write a guest blog post telling my story, new details come out. That is how healing works for me.

Healing & Therapy:
-Elizabeth Aine Achimah from Strength of the Absurd: Journey to Shalom submitted 2012: A Year of Transformation
She wrote: I have struggled for many years dealing with the aftermath of years of abuse, being a witness in a trial and losing my family. The year 2012 was a transformative year in which everything shifted - from shedding my maladaptive coping mechanisms, to loving who I am, to feeling free. As part of my struggle, I have wrestled with God and my blog is often reflective of such wrestling. I share this to give people hope - whether they find God or not - that healing IS possible. And that it is worth every minute of struggle.

-Kate from Kate Is Rising submitted I'm Not Who I Think I Am
She wrote: Being a survivor of abuse so often means that your self-concept is inaccurate and negative. You never really know yourself, so it is hard to love yourself and take good care of yourself. This is a recent post I wrote on that subject and how my self awareness and self-concept and self-esteem have been changing and healing.

-Patricia Singleton from Spiritual Journey Of A Lightworker submitted Time Does Not Heal All The Wounds Of Incest
She wrote: Too many people believe that time heals all wounds. It doesn't heal all of the big ones like incest. Too many people want you to heal instantly. It doesn't happen that way.

-K.Rothert from Helping Hands: Mental Health Information and Support submitted Our Furry/Feathered Friends and How They Can Help Us
K shares the story of a special pet that helped her in her early years of therapy, and a lot of great references about animals and health.

-Kate from Kate Is Rising submitted The Feast of St. Gabriel's
She wrote: I often look for reasons to celebrate. The Feast of St. Gabriel's was a recent date where I did and I wrote about honoring our presence in the world, appreciating what we bring to it and what others bring to us that is good and positive and healing, and finding moments to celebrate ourselves.

Aftermath:
-David Pittman from Together We Heal submitted The Abused Addict - Dulling The Pain
After a childhood filled with sexual abuse, David turned to alcohol and drugs to dull and mask his pain. He is now seven plus years sober, and working to help other survivors.

-Delilah from The Child Abused Adult submitted I help...
Delilah is working on being more aware of her feelings. Blogging is helping her to document those feelings and therapy work.

-Kari Joys MS from The JoyIAm Blog submitted The Heart of Sexual Abuse Recovery
"Some survivors describe their abuse as ‘soul murder.’ They describe feeling like something precious was lost from deep inside of them. They report that their bodies were not affected as deeply as their souls."

Survivor Story:
-Delilah from The Child Abused Adult submitted I speak...

-David Pittman from Together We Heal submitted Pedophiles Are Like Serial Killers

***************
The Blog Carnival Against Child Abuse provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the serious issue of child abuse and to share important posts with others who might not be frequent readers of an author's blog. There are so many wonderful bloggers who are contributing to the cause of ending and recovering from child abuse. If you, as a reader or author, know of other blogs that you find helpful, please encourage them to submit to an upcoming issue of the Blog Carnival Against Child Abuse so we can continue to receive high quality submissions from a wide swath of bloggers.

Many thanks to all of you who shared your hearts and stories with us, and to all of you who read the submissions and show your support. You keep this carnival, the awareness, support, and healing going each month.

To provide another way for you to stay in contact with the blog carnival, and make sure you don't miss any updates, we have a Blog Carnival Against Child Abuse Facebook Page.

Thank you for raising your voice and speaking out against child abuse!

  1. I just read through some of these and Kate is Rising really grabbed me - about self concept being inaccurate and negative. I think so many of us walk out of childhoods where we are not at all how others perceived us but yet we believe their point of view - and then have to try to take ours back. And it's work. But worth it. Lovely round up of posts - and an important round up of posts. xo

    1. That post is really powerful. It is hard work to get to the place where we can throw off other people's stories about ourselves, and find our true selves.

Thank you for reading these posts. I love seeing our submitters supported in sharing their stories and healing.

  6. I agree that pedophiles are like serial killers. The last place I lived was filled with them leaving me as the only non-offender on the property. I moved recently and feel as if I am surviving them.....

Thank you for visiting me today and for letting me find your blog. I also appreciated the blogroll on your sidebar.

    Until again,
    Faith

  7. Power to you. Bless you each, us all. Strength. Progress. Awareness. Change. Evolution. God knows, will it ever stop. But I know, I do, how it destroys.

    Great site.

    1. It does destroy. But each one of us who survives, and strives for healing, breaks the cycle, and speaks out make a difference.
