I Don't Understand

Jana's prompt inspired me today. Probably because I like lists. And because there are so many things I don't understand.

Here are a few of them...

I don't understand why the commercials are so much louder than the television shows they interrupt.

I don't understand why the volume button on my remote is dying; making it frusteratingly hard to turn the volume down quickly when the commercials try to pierce my eardrums.

I don't understand people who bring other people into situations that are not their concern. I do not want to be in the middle of your drama. Why do you want to put me there?

I don't understand why we are still observing time change in 2013. We should just stop that nonsense.

I don't understand people who refuse to tell the truth.

I don't understand how someone can chose one child over another.

I don't understand people who knock loudly on the door at 3am, and wake up the neighbors. Especially when I am the neighbor who is trying to sleep. I also don't understand people who knock loudly on the door at 3:30 am, and wake up the neighbors. There is no greater understanding when it happens at 4am, either. Unfortunately, I do understand why no one in my family got enough sleep last night.

I don't understand why blue cheese is so tasty on a salad, but blue cheese dressing is awful.
Is there something you don't understand?

  1. I'm so with you on the commercials being louder than the shows. What's up with that? It's comparable to the pilot being louder than the music/TVs on airplanes. Why? I know for a fact that they can control volume and yet they choose not to. Not cool.

    1. I don't understand why they do not control the volume on planes, either. That is crazy.

  2. I'm with ya on the neighbors. We have one that has a varied schedule and her ride will honk to let her know they've arrived. At 2am. Honking. Because we don't have cell phones or doorbells even.

  3. You're eating the wrong brand of blue cheese dressing! Lite House Blue Cheese is to die for!

And the commercials are louder to grab your attention. It works too! They used to do it only late at night to wake up viewers who had drifted off. They may be doing it all the time now but it's still worse at night. And some channels are worse than others.

    1. I've tried several brands, but maybe I will give the Lite House a shot.

It IS worse at night! I have noticed that. And there are definitely some channels that are worse offenders. Don't they know that this annoys people? If your commercial assaults my eardrums, I am less likely to buy your product. Especially if it wakes me up!

  4. I don't understand TV shows with background music louder than the actual dialogue (well, more reality shows than anything else).

I don't understand how lazy some people can be when they throw their rubbish one foot shy of the actual bin in a communal area (yup, talking about my neighbors).

    I don't understand Internet trolls. :)

    1. I hate it when the background music is louder than the dialogue. Reality shows are bad about that. You know where else I have noticed it? On DVDs. What is up with the strange music to dialogue mix on DVDs? Crazy. Subtitles are my friend.

Leaving trash on the ground is never acceptable (I have a couple of neighbors who are guilty of that as well).

Internet trolls will never make sense to me. They need to get a new hobby, and probably leave their scary basements.

  5. Well, I do love both Bleu Cheese and the dressing. And how bad is that to be wakened by a knock on your neighbors' door. That would be heard to understand and really get old.

    1. It was not good. And it messed up all of our sleeping schedules.

  6. I don't understand why we observe Daylight Savings Time either, it's unnatural. It puts the time we are forced to live in against the natural time. I never feel quite right during Daylight Savings Time.

    1. It is unnatural! I'm pretty sure it is tied to farming in some way, right? (or did I imagine that) Like school schedules. But most of us are not farmers.

Arizona refuses to acknowledge it, so their time always stays the same. Unless you live on a reservation, because they are more of a federal land situation, so they DO observe it. Nothing about that situation makes sense.

  7. I don't understand why congress (or whoever) thinks they can control. own, or dictate time and make us do a time change. It is just beyond comprehension. Also? It has PROVEN to be wasteful: in Australia or somewhere, they actually found that people used MORE electricity during time change because they needed more lights and heat in the morning. So, really, congress, get rid of this stupid idea that you control time and let us be more energy efficient while you're at it.

    1. Right? Stop trying to control us!!

It is interesting that it actually makes people use more electricity.

Telling the truth is always the best thing to do. Even when it is hard. Especially when it is hard. xoxo

  10. I love bleu cheese dressing with my buffalo wings.

I don't understand people picking one child over another, either. Especially when the unwanted kid gets abused. That makes me angry.

    Get some sleep, I hope!

  11. I don't understand how times flies when I am on the net but drags on forever when I am doing dishes.

I don't understand why people think they have the right to be rude to other people.

I don't understand why my money disappears once I break a twenty.

    1. There is clearly some conspiracy that makes clocks slow down when it is dish time.

Money really does disappear when you break a twenty. What's up with that!?

  12. Yes! Everything you listed her is absolutly correct!

  13. Daylight savings time drives me bonkers. BONKERS.
And choosing one kid over the other: I actually understand in that I understand people are ill and damaged even parents, but it's so sad and I think it's something that haunts children for longer than almost anything else. Parents are our first relationship and to be outright rejected, or even just chosen second or third, creates an insecurity that takes a lot of work as an adult to overcome.

  14. Daylight savings time is an asshole.
What is the point of it anyways. It messes up T.V scheduling :)
I'm not a fan of the blue cheese. Something about the thought of rotting food.
    Gross.

  15. Yes! The commercials are totally louder than the television shows! I used to think someone sat on the remote and turned the volume up accidentally! So annoying!
