I Read 101 Books In 2013

I finally learned how to use Goodreads at the beginning of this year (unlike Thomas, who isn't sure how Goodreads works), and for the first time I intentionally kept a record of the books I read. I also spent time in a couple of reading groups on facebook with Nicole and Andrea, and I am looking forward to being even more involved in those groups next year.

Goodreads asked me how many books I wanted to challenge myself to read, and I set a goal of 100. I was not sure if that number was high or low, since I had never tracked my reading before, but as the year closes, I am sitting at 101 books read.

I felt like I updated you a lot on my reading, and wrote lots of books posts. But there actually weren't that many, especially in light of how many books I read.

My Bookish Posts of 2013

I got involved in three epic series this year, reading the Wheel of Time with Thomas, Barsoom with Katarina, and Outlander with Tia. I also read more YA than I have in years past, and snuck in a couple of comic books and graphic novels. Add some biographies, literature, Christian fiction, mysteries, children's books, a little bit of fluff, and short stories to the mix, and you have an overview of my very eclectic reading habbits.

  2. This was a tough year for me reading-wise, sad because I adore reading... I started about 300 books, not sure how many I completed, though I finished the year with 2 in one week, and I heartily recommend both: Brain on Fire by Susannah Cahaln, and Broken Open by Elizabeth Lesser. I am going to try Goodreads for sure!
    Happy New Year!

  5. A very small group of my girlfriends decided to start a book club two years ago. I have loved every minute of it, as I had let a lot of my reading time go...kids! The book club forces me to read and read books that I may not have chosen on my own. Happy reading!

  6. Impressive!!! I am reading Wonder with my daughter right now and we love it!

  7. Nice!! I read all of the George RR Martin books in a reading spree last summer and have read *maybe* 10 books since then - not including bloggy peeps books. I need to fix that this year.

  8. I read The Gatecrasher and Gone Girl...I want to read Let's Pretend This Never Happened.
It wasn't a great year of reading for me, unless you count reading blogs.

  9. I read over 123... but that's only the ones I tracked! I'm sure the total is more than that. Added you to my goodreads :)

  11. Congrats on reading so many books in 2013! That's incredible!

My goal was 15 books and I made it to 12 read in full. I started books 13 and 14 and gave them good effort but didn't finish either in time. Compared to my book in 2012, I'm proud of what I did in 2013. Tough call on what my favorite book was though. Probably Outlaw Journalist by William McKeen followed by Packing Light by Allison Vesterfelt.

  13. This post almost drove me nuts because I suddenly found myself wandering around GoodReads setting goals and stuff! =)

  14. I still can't figure out GoodReads. Or rather, I haven't tried that hard. I only joined to review a dear friend's novel, and the first couple of weeks, I was a kid in a candy store, but my sugar high wore off pretty quickly. I'm a total book nerd, and the nerd in me wants so badly to have a coffee with you and discuss the many many books that we have in common. I'm a huge Outlander fan. Would love to know your thoughts. Did you make it through the whole series? Also, I love Gyllian Flynn. Like total fan girl love, and Let's Pretend..by the Bloggess..laughed, snorted, and spewed coffee from my nose...all in public. I could go on and on and on, but I should stop.

  15. I'm certain that I read over 100 books in 2013, but all of them were to Malone. We really enjoy the Pigeon series by Mo Williams (Don't Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus etc). As for myself, the book that most resonated with me this year was Bread & Wine by Shauna Niequist. I have a bunch on my Kindle, waiting to be read but the time just never seems to be there.

  16. I love books! I love to read. I love to feel them, look at them, hold them in my hands. I have never heard of GoodReads. I read a lot of books in 2013. Unlike you, however, I don't know what I read! Will check GoodReads out. Thanks for posting!

  17. 100 books? Whoa...way to go Tracie...My favorite reads I just wrapped up are Elizabeth Smart's Story, A House in the Sky. I've read a ton of books but those two are the last ones of 2013. I love books that inspire and these two woman have incredible courage. Wishes for a great 2014. Happy Reading.

  18. Stopping by from SITS. I am OBSESSED with the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. I have read most of those books more than once.

  19. 101 books! What an accomplishment. I feel like I read all the time and only manage reading about 25 books a year. I plan on reading more in 2014 and spending less time on social media. I am on Goodreads, but don't really use it. I just don't have time.

  20. Hi, Tracie! I loved getting a peek at your books and your bookish posts! Some of your books are on my Amazon wishlist...I think you have inspired me to get them off my list and into my hands! :)

  21. You have some great books on your list. I have always loved to read. It lets you travel to faraway places, learn about history or just let you escape into a mystical realm with dragons and faeries. I don't know what I would do without our local library.

  22. Love this post and now I have so many more books to read! I read a lot in 2013, including all the books out in A Song of Ice & Fire series (Game of Thrones freak here) which should probably count as 2 or 3 each. However, I let my goodreads lapse this year. Thanks for the inspiration to start following up with it again!

  23. Stopping by from SITS. You've inspired me to start using GoodReads again. I don't know about 101 books, but I can read a lot!

  24. Wow Traci, that's an amazing accomplishment! What's your number for 2014?

  25. I read a lot. I love it. And I'm definitely inspired to check out a few of your choices because I haven't read most of them - from your 2013 list, I've read Harry Potter, the Outlander series, Water for Elephants, Gone Girl...maybe one or two others I can't remember now that I'm typing this comment. I need to get back into Goodreads. I used to actively use my account, but I got out of the habit, so it's pretty outdated now!

  26. Wow - 101 books! Go Tracie! If I count the books I read with Jack (and only chapter books) I almost made it to 30. Warm Bodies and John Dies at the End were my favorite grown up books!

If you like YA, you might want to check out Garth Nix's Sabriel and The Keys to the Kingdom. I love both of those.

  27. Wow! 101 seems like a lot! I've never tracked how many books I've read in a year! I'm on book 2 right now, though. I think I'm off to a good start. Hah.

  28. I just discovered goodreads too. I think my favourite book of the year was the Divergent series, even if I'm having trouble getting into the last one.
