Thursday Thirteen #8

Thirteen Things about Tracie

1. Since it always says "thirteen things about Tracie", I thought that this week I would try to be overly literal and tell you at least a few things about "Tracie"-the name.

2.Think Baby Names says that "Tracie" means "warlike".

3.The New Parents Guide says that Tracie means "Brave; happy and content".

4. Several places say that Tracie (or Tracy) comes from the name Theresa. But this person disagrees.

5. When I took Spanish in high school, we all had to use a Spanish form of our names and my teacher made me go by Theresa.

6. In 1940, Katherine Hepburn was in the movie "Philadelphia Story" playing a character named "Tracy Lord". Apparently that really helped the name out, becuase between 1940 and 1950, the popularity of Tracy for a girl's name really went up. That trend continued until 1970. After 1970, the name lost popularity, and it has been going down ever since.

7. I have never had anyone even accidently spell my name correctly. They always want to use a "y" on the end or an "ey".

8. That is basically all that I have to say about Tracie........besides that whole spelling issue I have always liked my name.
Here is a spot where you can read about some names that no one wants to have.

9. Now onto things totally unrelated to my name. My husband has a sort of strange issue with computers. He likes to play with all of the settings. He will go in and mess with the colors of things (not nessecarilly knowing what he is changing) and suddenly you won't be able to read the menus becuase he picked out non-compatable colors. It has been a while since he has done this, but I am always scared he will. Yesterday he said something about having changed stuff on the computer, but when I tried to ask him what the meant he changed the subject.

10. Today, I found out what he meant. All of the sudden, my cursor isn't black anymore, it is red. And when I highlight text, it turns yellow and the highlight is red. But worse than that-there is some strange font setting. It doesn't affect everything, but over half of the web sites that I have been to tonight suddenly have the same wierd, fancy font (it is the same strange font that he likes to use when he types stuff in word). For instance, when I was at IMDb earlier, all of the movie descriptions were written in thise strange font. I didn't realize it right away, but after I kept finding the same wierd font place after place it all came back to me. I remembered him doing this to me before. Now, it is driving me crazy!

11. The Fair came to town today!! I think we are going to go next week and I am very excited. It is always a great excuse to eat lots of Chilli Cheese Fries and Corn Dogs and Cotton Candy and Funnel Cakes and other great tasting (but very bad for you) food.

12. Katarina is excited to go ride on the rides and see all of the animals.

13. ........hmmm.......number thirteen is always the hardest to think of.............so I will leave you with a verse. Hebrews 12:29 "For our God is a consuming fire". Have a great Thursday!

  3. Your husband is FUNNY! Although I would probably kill mine if he did that to me!

I like the name Tracie and the spelling. Cute idea. My name (Sally) is another form of Sarah and means princess.

Since there really isn't a name comparable to Sally in Spanish, my teacher made a name up for me: Contenta.

  4. I hate to admit it...but I've changed colors on my computer once where I couldn't read anything. No matter how handy a male is...we are all good at breakin stuff.

  19. Such a great TT topic. My name means graceful and I find it hysterical because I haven't an ounce of grace in me. Very fun TT!

  24. Great idea for a TT! I'll have to play the name game as a TT next time. People always ask me if my name's spelled with a C or a K, and I tell them it's with a CH.
    Happy TT!

  26. Isn't it weird that I've never done the Thursday Thirteen? Even though I was born on the 13th?

People ALWAYS spell my name wrong. I could probably come up with thirteen incorrect spellings of my name. ;)

    Here via michele!

  27. Oddly the only Tracy/Tracey/Tracie type people I have known have been male, I think...thusly, in my head it's always "Tracy."

    Just thought I'd share :)

    Here via Michele's!

  28. I thought I was the only one who knew so much about my name. I hope you won't mind if I try this myself... it's just too good to pass up!

Oh, and number 10 totally cracked me up! Don't you love it when your hubby goes off on his own?

    Thanks for visiting my T13!

  29. Michele sent me over, Tracie.

Teresa is probably originally derived from a Greek locative Therasios, Therasia 'inhabitant of Thera'.

I guess you learn something new everyday, huh? I'd never heard that before, Tracie. Thanks!

I like #10 best. It reminds me of a trick I used to play back in the pre-Windows days. If you entered a certain control code into DOS you could change the color of the cursor and if you did it as 'black' the background color, it would seem like the computer broke since nothing would appear on the screen. LOL I was such a dick!

  31. hello from michele! i love number 8 and am continuing back there to read more, its funny. i cant talk much about bad baby names, as i named my youngest son (no kidding) Indiana Jones.

  32. Tracie's an awesome name. . . no one ever spells mine right either.

Hope you enjoyed the funnel cake. Funnel cake is also awesome. Michele sent me.

  33. I never knew that Tracie and Theresa were commonly associated. People never spell my name correctly either. I've got one of those names that can be either a girl's or a guy's name and they often spell it the guy's way.

Great T13! I don't think I could have come up with 13 things about my name either, but it would be fun to try!

  34. I'm not tech-y enough to change my cursor color. Sounds cool but distracting!

  35. hello tracIE!!!! good idea for a t13... i didnt get around to doing one last week but did you know you don't have to have it say "thirteen things about tracie" on there? i took that part off of my t13 headers... even though it's stuff i make up, it's no necessarily stuff about me... know what i mean?

    check out my new invention!

oh and here via michele, i'm still playing and up entirely too late!

  36. Hi there! My name is TRACIE, too. I know what you mean about the constant misspellings. I was born in 1981, and I was the only one in school (elementary and high school) named Tracie, and I never met another Tracie in college either, though I'm sure there were some of us there! :) I laughed when I saw what you said about Theresa. My Spanish teacher also made me go by that, but I wanted to go by Natalia or something like that. I actually don't like the name Theresa or Teresa. I love being named Tracie, though!
