Abbreviations Are Confusing

Thomas called us the other day while he was at work to check for messages, and had this conversation with Katarina (who has a strange new love of abbreviations).

Katarina: I'm reading my new book. FYI, I read 89 pages today.

Thomas: That is great honey.

Katarina: FYIA, there are less than 200 pages, so I'm halfway through.

Thomas (thinking): FYIA? For your information...A?...
(breath catching, heart stopping, face falling)...FYI Asshole? Did she really just say that to me?

Thomas (out loud): What does FYIA mean?

Katarina: For your information, also. Couldn't you figure that out from the context of what I was saying?

Abbreviations. They are confusing, and could possibly get you in trouble.

Totally unrelated picture alert.
You may have already seen this if you are friends with me on facebook or Google+, because it is my new favorite Katarina picture that has been hiding on my computer.
girl in hat

Like I told my friend Karen - I'm blessed, because the kid and the hat are both mine.
(even if the kid does occasionally use confusing abbreviations)

  5. Is Thomas collecting guns yet? To ward off the boys ... not to shoot the girl! She is beautiful!

F.Y.I. I got in trouble as a child for calling my dad a "jerk-off." Now granted even what I meant wasn't respectful but I was NOT saying what he thought I did! :)

    1. Right? Sometimes your thought processes totally get in the way of understanding what someone else is really saying.

  12. Look at that little model.

Okay, so I have a million stories I can tell about messed up abbreviations. One of the most recent is a kid asking me about SDT's. What? I replied. Ahhh, yes, STD's. Now, I'm with you.
