Is Florida Really The Sunshine State?

We get a lot of rain in Florida, so much rain that I often wonder if we deserve to be called "The Sunshine State" at all. This afternoon we had a storm with all sorts of crazy, sideways rain. It was so thick, and the wind so strong, the rain almost looked like fog rolling in.

For everyone who did not spend their Sunday afternoon in the Sunshine Rain State, I'm going to share our freakish thunderstorm with you:
Thunderstorm On A Sunday Afternoon In Florida Link

It did make for great afternoon reading weather.
Even if a flashlight was needed to see the words.

Do you enjoy afternoon thunderstorms?

  1. I love thunderstorms! I'm upset because we didn't get any storms in my little corner of the Sunshine State even though they were calling for it.

    1. I think Spring is on strike. Our weather is warm down here, but I am still seeing a LOT of snow pictures in my facebook newsfeed.

  4. We got the ugly rain on Saturday. It didn't quite get sideways, but it sounded awful.

    1. It seems to be very sunny today - hopefully some of that sun has made it up there to you as well.

  5. do you live near Orlando - cause a storm like that stopped the PGA tourney and I couldn't see Tiger win another one

    1. We do live in Orlando! Will they reschedule the tourney? Or did they play through the rain?
(You can tell I'm very up on golf these days with those questions.)

    Brevard County...
We didn't lose power, thankfully... But a few people I know had damage.

    1. Hey there fellow Floridian!
I've seen pictures of a few downed trees in our area. Glad to hear you didn't lose power.

  7. I remember visiting my sister when she lived near Fort Lauderdale. Every afternoon during my visit, without fail, there was a storm for about 15-20 minutes. Never anything like what you went through this weekend, though! Holy moly!!

    1. Yep! It rains down here all the time. And it is nearly impossible to correctly predict what when or how much it will happen.

  10. I'd rather have a thunderstorm than the snow that is falling right now. Ugh! Where is spring already??

  11. I have to admit I love thunderstorms. Of course the ones here in TX can get a little scary at times. But they're a great excuse to not leave the house!

  12. Wow! I like storms only if I know where everybody is. Otherwise I worry myself to death. LOL

  13. I love thunderstorms but we don't get them much here in western Oregon. When I lived in Wisconsin, I enjoyed quite a few window-rattling storms.

  16. If I didn't know better, I'd think it was a hurricane!

    1. I found out the next day that the winds did reach 85 MPH, which is hurricane strength (even though it wasn't officially a hurricane).

  17. Oh wow, that was rather scary. I don't like thunderstorms - both the thunder and lightening frighten me. Dropping by from Sundays in my city.

  18. We needed some of that Spring rain but got very little in the North Central part of the state. I like a rainy day every once in awhile...I love to read, too!

  19. You are not kidding, that is a lot of rain. I am afraid of thunderstorms unless I have someone to cuddle up with.

  20. Crazy!!! We had a big thunderstorm here yesterday, but nothing like that! :) You know Wyoming actually has the most sunny days of the entire USA? It should really be called the sunshine state ;)
